'Mr Sulu' beams into I'm a Celebrity (+PHOTOS)
Star Trek star George Takei has headed for the Australian jungle to take part in the new series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! The 71-year-old actor - who played Mr Sulu in the sci fi show and also appeared in hit series Heroes - goes boldly where no other Star Trek star has gone before by starring in the ITV reality show. Footballer Joe Cole's fiancee Carly Zucker and ex-EastEnders star Joe Swash have also been announced as contestants. Former Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova, 52, TV-presenter-turned-MP Robert Kilroy-Silk, 66, Blue singer Simon Webbe, 29, chatshow host Esther Rantzen, 68, former TV presenter Dani Behr, 37, and 25-year-old glamour model Nicola McLean will be joining them in the jungle camp in Murwillumbah, New South Wales. Brian Paddick - former deputy commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police - has also signed up to appear in the ITV reality show. The 50-year-old gay police chief retired last year and then ran for London Mayor, but lost out to Boris Johnson. Soap star Joe, 26 - who played Albert Square's unlucky lad Mickey Miller for four years until he was written out of the show this summer - was forced to take three months off EastEnders in 2005 when he was hospitalised with a rare form of meningitis that caused his brain to swell up. He spent two weeks fighting for his life in intensive care and was left unable to talk, but there have been no long-term side effects. Meanwhile, George has been in the news recently for marrying his partner Brad Altman - and allegedly not inviting his Star Trek co-star William Shatner.
