Texas Blood Jon Voight

Blood feud.

Jon Voight’s veteran rancher discovers that grudge-bearing millionaire rival James Caan is behind a plot to snatch the land that has been in his family for generations. Sudsy melodrama Texas Blood (aka JL Family Ranch) boasts a noteworthy cast. Teri Polo, Melanie Griffith and Steven Bauer, as it happens, all feature in supporting roles. But neither the long-simmering central feud nor a skein of subplots amount to very much. Along the way, Voight’s crusty hero takes pops at interfering federal bureaucrats and pesky Greens. Which gives you an idea where the film is coming from.

Certificate PG. Runtime 84 mins. Director Charles Robert Carner

Texas Blood debuts on Sky Cinema Premiere on 6 February. Available on DVD & Digital from Precision Pictures.

Jason Best

A film critic for over 25 years, Jason admits the job can occasionally be glamorous – sitting on a film festival jury in Portugal; hanging out with Baz Luhrmann at the Chateau Marmont; chatting with Sigourney Weaver about The Archers – but he mostly spends his time in darkened rooms watching films. He’s also written theatre and opera reviews, two guide books on Rome, and competed in a race for Yachting World, whose great wheeze it was to send a seasick film critic to write about his time on the ocean waves. But Jason is happiest on dry land with a classic screwball comedy or Hitchcock thriller.
