Eve Morey wants British Neighbours theme

Neighbours star Eve Morey has said she would love to see a Brit triumph in the competition to compose a new theme song for the soap.

The contest will see one finalist from the UK go head-to-head with an Australian finalist for the chance to pen the theme - and Eve, who plays Sonya Mitchell, admitted she was rooting for the UK performer due to the popularity of the soap on these shores.

"I wouldn't have a problem if a Brit won it at all," Eve said. "It feels like the UK is really the heart of this show - there's such a wonderful response, it feels there's such respect and admiration for the show.

"So I think it would be great if there was a UK winner. Is that wrong to say? I think it would be a nice merger of the two countries."

Eve - whose character is at the centre of the forthcoming dramatic explosion storyline - added she'd like to hear some humour in the new tune.

"I'd love to see it operatic or something like that. Something that's really out there and plays against what people are expecting," she said.

"The great thing about Neighbours is it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's got the drama but at the end of the day there's comedy in it and I think something that celebrates that would be good.

"Because everybody, even if you've never watched the show, knows the theme tune," Eve added. "It is in your brain and I think something like that is good."
