Anastacia has admitted she's 'scared' of wearing costumes that might reveal the scars on her body when she competes in this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

The 47-year-old US singer was treated for breast cancer in 2003 and underwent a double mastectomy when the disease returned 10 years later.

Anastacia – who will be donating her fee from Strictly Come Dancing to a breast cancer charity – told What’s on TV: “Because of the radical surgeries that I’ve had, I have a lot of scars on my back, so the costumes are gonna be challenging.

"I'm open to the possibility of maybe showing them on the show but there’s no guarantee because I'm still very scared of that."

The I'm Outta Love singer went on: "All of us women that go through [breast cancer], we all have our own little fears and definitely my fear is to ever let anyone see the scars on my back.

“But it's a possibility that this show will give me the courage to do just that. I’m hoping that, because I’m rooting for women with breast cancer, they will root for me and give me courage spiritually to find that in myself."

Anastacia is one of 15 celebrities, including EastEnders' actress Tameka Empson, Birds of a Feather's Lesley Joseph and BBC Sport presenter Ore Oduba, taking part in this year's Strictly.

Anastacia signed up for Strictly after performing on its special Blackpool show last year.

"That was our first date and it all happened after that," she joked. "It was like one kiss and now we’re done, we’re getting married!"

On Saturday night, all 15 celebrities will be paired up with their professional dance partners.

Strictly Come Dancing: The Launch is on Saturday September 3 at 6.50pm on BBC1.
