The Corrie legend revealed she was ‘sceptical’ of the plot…

Beverley Callard, who plays Weatherfield legend Liz McDonald, has revealed that she was on the fence when she heard her character’s dead daughter was apparently coming back to life.

But as viewers now know, the soap favourite was actually part of a con concocted by her ex-husband Jim McDonald and his girlfriend Hannah Gilmore.

The pair had plotted to fool Liz into thinking Hannah was her dead daughter Katie, claiming there had been a baby swap at the hospital when she was born, in order to dupe Liz out of her money.

Speaking of the storyline, Beverley admitted that she wasn’t too keen when producers told her what was in store for Liz.

‘You can imagine when they said “Actually, your dead daughter returns.” We’re thinking “What? Well, I‘m not sure about this,” Beverley said.

'We were quite sceptical about it. But in the end, I think it worked well.'

One part of the plot Beverley did enjoy though was getting to work with Charlie Lawson, who plays Jim, again.

‘At first I just thought “She comes back to lie, or she was swapped at death, what is this about?” But I thought it was really good for me having Charlie back,’ she added.

And despite the turmoil of their relationship, Beverley thinks there’s still hope for Liz and Jim.

She added: ‘I don’t think they are finished forever… He played it with a sense of remorse and that he really did love Liz, and so I think and I really hope, that they will try and bring him back, I think maybe he’ll somehow get the money to give back to Liz and then I think it will begin again.’

Coronation Street continues on Monday at 7.30pm on ITV
