After appearing alongside David Tennant in the third and final series of ITV's Broadchurch, this time Elen Rhys is doing the investigating...

There'll be sun, sea and scandal when a new 10-part crime drama, The Mallorca Files, comes to BBC One Daytime and iPlayer next year. It follows the investigations of British detective Miranda Blake (Elen Rhys) and her German police partner Max Winter (played by Julian Looman) on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

But the two detectives have very different approaches to crime-solving so expect plenty of squabbling as the pair search for clues and try to crack a different crime on the sunny island each week.

"Dan Sefton has written a wonderfully flawed character in Miranda, who promises to be a lot of fun," says Elen, whose character Zoe went on a date with DI Alec Hardy in the third and final series of ITV's Broadchurch. "I am thrilled to be playing one half of this mismatched crime fighting duo especially against the beautiful backdrop of Mallorca. What’s not to like?"

Julian Looman, who recently starred in the German crime-drama Der Pass (aka Pagan Peak) says:

"As soon as I read the scripts I was immediately drawn to Max and the opportunity to play a different kind of German to what British audiences might be used to! I’m thrilled to be playing opposite the talented Elen and know we can make a great on-screen partnership. And having now met all the production team I’m convinced The Mallorca Files is going to be fun to make and great fun to watch."

Overseeing the detectives will be formidable police boss Chief Inez Villegas, a woman who doesn't suffer fools and is more than happy to dump the detectives with cases her own team don't want to touch.

The Mallorca Files begins filming in November and will air on BBC One in 2019 with all 10 episodes available to watch on BBC iPlayer on the first day of transmission.
