Fans were shocked to discover the link between Emma and this Emmerdale legend

Coronation Street fans were left stunned after discovering Emma Brooker’s surprise connection to an Emmerdale legend.

The sweet stylist, played by Alexandra Mardell, has had a rough time lately after discovering that Steve McDonald is in fact her biological father.

But after the official Corrie Twitter account shared a throwback snap of Emma’s mum Fiona Middleton, played by Angela Griffin, and her grandmother, Emma’s link to soap royalty was revealed.

It turns out Emma’s grandmother in Corrie was played by Elizabeth Estensen – who plays none other than Diane Sugden in Emmerdale and has done since 1999.

After Steve mentioned Emma’s gran in Friday night’s episode, admitting she used to terrify him, show bosses shared the throwback snap, along with the tweet: ‘Is your grandma still alive, because she put the fear of God into me!’ Who remembers Fiona's mum, Pam Middleton? Steve certainly does!”

Fans rushed to comment under the post, sharing their disbelief over the soap link.

One said: “Elizabeth. She now play Diane in Emmerdale,” a second added: “Dianne? Is that you?”

A third shared a meme of Janice from Friends screaming, “OMG” and a fourth added: “I see a familiar face there right in front of my eyes 👀👁️ Isn't that Diane Suggen? from @Emmerdale?”

Elizabeth played Fiona’s no-nonsense mother, Pam Middleton, a recurring character throughout Angela Griffin’s tenure on the soap.

Pam actually appeared in Fiona’s final episode back in September 1998 as her daughter decided to leave Weatherfield behind, not realising she was carrying Steve’s child.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
