Viewers were delighted to see the square's resident hardman come to Mick's rescue.

EastEnders viewers rejoiced after watching Phil Mitchell finally turn on his former cellmate Aidan Maguire during Friday night's episode.

Albert Square's resident hardman came to Mick Carter's rescue after he was attacked by evil Aidan Maguire, who has been using The Queen Vic as a drug den.

After a brutal assault on Mick, Aidan exits the pub believing he has put Mick back in his place, only for Phil to suddenly send Aidan flying back through the door, much to the delight of viewers watching at home.

'Did anyone else scream with excitement when Phil came in?' one viewer exclaimed.

Another said: 'THAT EPISODE WAS AMAZING SO MANY PLOT TWISTS THE TEETH , SHARON , TED AND THE CREW SHOWING UP , PHIL DOING THE RIGHT THING AND HELPING MICK. HALFWAY THO . well done EastEnders and i applaude aidens character amazing acting.'

A third excitedly tweeted: 'YES PHIL!!!!!! THIS IS THE PHIL MITCHELL WE KNOW AND LOVE!!!'

While a fourth said: 'yes eastenders. Phil the King ofwalford Mitchell is back!!!!'

Another said: 'Phil Mitchell, what an absolute geezer.'

Friday's emotionally charged scenes come after some viewers questioned why it is taking so long for Mick, Phil and other members of the failed heist to confront Aidan.

One viewer said: 'Don’t know why they all so scared of Aidan in #EastEnders he’s an old man with a stick. Just do him & it’s sorted'.

Another said: 'Aidan is just an old bloke with a stick who spends 90% of the time on his own and they acting like he’s some hard nut that they couldn’t top #Eastenders'.

While a third person tweeted: 'Aidan is an OLD man with a walking stick, all these enemies he’s made can easily take him down! Making them all look soft! Mick, Vincent, Phil, Mel, Keanu... why are they all so terrified of an old man #EastEnders.'
