Well. No sooner has Great British Bake Off contestant Ian Cumming finished dancing around with joy after being named Star Baker for the third week in a row, than he’s accused of cheating.
The allegations are that Ian, 42, has received secret coaching from a top chef - and personal friend - for his creme brûlée that judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood described as “perfect”.
The dessert - which Ian called “Pomegranate two ways” - is allegedly similar to one that was served at a Middle Eastern wedding at Cambridge University’s Trinity College, where Ian’s friend is head of catering.
In reports in the Sunday Mirror, a rival cook at the university also claims Ian has received tips during the filming of the series from his friend, Ian Reinhardt and says: “He probably wouldn’t be star baker if it wasn’t for the extra help.”
Ian Cumming’s representative has denied he has broken any rules. The contest’s regulations state that competitors must not have professional training.
A spokesperson for the Great British Bake Off has stated: “Ian has not received any coaching and he has not broken any rules.”
