Nadiya Hussain, who won last year's Great British Bake Off, has tweeted about a racist incident on a train during which a man refused to sit near her.
Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain has told how she was racially abused by a fellow passenger while travelling on a train.
The baker, raised by Bangladeshi parents in Luton, said a man told her he would not sit beside her because she is a Muslim.
The 31-year-old, whose career highs since winning Bake Off have included serving up a birthday cake for the Queen, has previously said she has to live with racist abuse as “part of my life”.
The mother-of-three tweeted about the incident:
Nadiya, who won the 2015 series of the popular baking show, said in August that she was “astounded” to be credited with having a positive impact on race relations in the UK because she still suffers anti-Islamic abuse.
“I expect to be shoved or pushed or verbally abused, because it happens, it’s happened for years.”
Since winning the 2015 series of the hit baking show, Nadiya has gone on to become a columnist, author and television presenter.
A contestant from this year's Bake Off, Rav Bansal, replied to Hussain's tweet saying he had recently had a similar experience.
"You are a much better person then he will ever be," Bansal said.
