Helen George's paso doble gets her booted off Strictly

Call The Midwife star Helen George was the latest celebrity to get voted off Strictly Come Dancing in tonight’s results show.

Helen and her professional partner Alijaz Skorjanec competed in the dreaded dance-off with Georgia May Foote and her partner Giovanni Pernice.

In last night’s musical-themed quarter final, Helen and Alijaz danced a passionate paso doble in a lively routine Les Miserables number At The End Of The Day.

At the end of the performance, it was time for the judges to have their say: Bruno said that although it was full of drama, Helen had a few balance issues; Craig claimed there were was a timing issue at the beginning and a wobble at the end, but remarked that the rest of the routine was brilliant; Darcey said there was lots of energy but Helen struggled to stay on top of a difficult style; and Len thought that the final dance of the night was a fitting end to a fantastic quarter final.

The judges gave Helen and Alijaz a collective score of 34 points, placing them in fifth place on the leaderboard. The pair beat Anita Rani and her partner Gleb Savchenko, whose Argentine tango – to Cellblock Tango from Chicago – put them at the bottom of the leaderboard with 31 points.

In tonight’s dance-off, Helen and Alijaz performed their routine again, but after Georgia and Giovanni’s repeat performance – a foxtrot to the theme of Disney classic Beauty and the Beast – the judges agreed that they were the better couple, meaning that Helen was out of the competition.

Talking to co-host Tess Daly, Helen said she had “flipping loved” being on the show and had made some great mates who she hoped to see again, while Alijaz praised his celebrity partner.

“I’ve loved every single week,” he said. “You amazed me with your level of professionalism and commitment. It’s been a joy.”
