Holly Willoughby on her emotional Surprise Surprise Mother’s Day Special

Holly Willoughby announced in March she was expecting her third child later this year.

So her pregnancy hormones coupled with her Surprise Surprise Mother’s Day special episode is sure to push the emotional star to the brink.

“I think everything is more emotional when you’re a mum,” said Holly, 33.

“And, yes, there’s been a bit of crying on this show.”

A bit? It’s like the floods all over again…

The hour-long show, which celebrates selfless individuals who do so much for others, features a number of tear-jerking surprises, amazing mums and a heart-warming family reunion.

Among the stories is Paula Smith, 28, a mum of two from the Isle Of Wight.

When Paula’s baby girl Amelia was born with low blood sugar, she found that regular baby clothes didn’t fit around her daughter’s tubes and bandages, so she invented a new garment especially for infants in neo-natal hospital wards.

Instead of patenting and selling her invention, Paula established a charity to help other parents by shipping the clothing to sick children around the UK and worldwide, for free.

“You look around the audience and everyone is crying with you,” Holly told the Mirror. “I can’t help crying, too.”

As well as presenting Surprise Surprise, Holly co-hosts This Morning with Phillip Schofield, designs clothing collections and writes children’s books with her older sister, Kelly.

But Holly insists her family – TV producer husband Dan Baldwin, four-year-old son Harry and two-year-old daughter Belle – always comes first, especially on tomorrow’s big day.

“I always knew I wanted a family and I’ve always wanted three children,” Holly says.

“I was really lucky to meet Dan when I did so we could start early. Having children together makes it more intense than ever.

“We make time for each other, and that doesn’t necessarily mean going out on a date. Some nights it can just mean opening a bottle of wine.

“My work/life balance is really important to me.

"When I’m working I put everything into work and do it. But when it’s home time my focus is my family.”
