Hollyoaks star Emmett J Scanlan in BBC zombie drama

When the second series of BBC3's zombie drama In The Flesh gets underway, it will be joined by Emmett J Scanlan, best known as Hollyoaks villain Brendan Brady.

In The Flesh is set in a small fictional northern town of Roarton where those who died in 2009 have been mysteriously brought back to life.

Although they have zombie tendencies, they are kept under control by drugs and their condition is named PDS (Partially Deceased Syndrome). Many locals, however, are prejudiced and hunt down the undead they call 'Rotters'.

In the new six-part series, Emmett - also seen in last years BBC2 thriller The Fall - plays a politicised zombie called Simon, a charismatic disciple of an Undead Prophet.

Lead actor Luke Newberry, who plays undead PDS teen Kieren Walker, says: "I'm very excited about the return of In The Flesh. New characters arrive in Roarton, introducing Kieren to further challenges and new dilemmas, as he begins to feel trapped between the living and the dead."

Other stars returning to In The Flesh include Ricky Tomlinson, Kenneth Cranham, Gerard Thompson, Steve Cooper and Sandra Huggett.

Five months of filming finished last week and the new series is due to be shown on BBC3 some time this spring.

TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
