JB Gill: I had to turn down Strictly

JLS member JB Gill has revealed he turned down the chance to return to Strictly Come Dancing for the main series after triumphing in the 2012 Christmas special.

The singer admitted that while he would love to be a part of the show - or be a mentor on a talent show - his other commitments with the band made it impossible this year.

"I can't do the next series of Strictly because I'm on tour with the boys, but if I was free, it's something I would have loved to have done," he said.

"They did ask me to do it this year, but I couldn't. But if they ask me again next year, then yeah, absolutely, I'd consider it."

JB made his mark on the show at Christmas after scoring a festive victory over the likes of Fabrice Muamba, Katy Brand, Sheila Hancock, Bobby Ball and Helen Skelton.

The singer - who found fame with the band after they finished second to Alexandra Burke in the 2008 series of The X Factor - said he would love to remain a part of the music industry following JLS's farewell tour.

"I'd love to continue mentoring. I don't know if any of the reality shows, like The X Factor, are currently looking for new mentors, but it would be lovely to be involved in that side of the industry as well," he revealed.

"Often it's difficult for people breaking through to know the right things, know the wrong things, to know what to do."
