Lorraine Kelly finally discusses rumours she’s about to retire from TV
Will Lorraine pass her morning TV baton onto someone new…?
Lorraine Kelly has discussed rumours that she’s set to retire from TV once she turns 60 next year.
The morning TV star has been on our telly screens for the past 34-years – but with her milestone birthday fast approaching, fans have been left wondering whether she will continue to host her own breakfast show on ITV.
Well fear not because Lorraine has assured fans that she has no plans to retire anytime soon.
‘I don’t know what my secret is because you can burn out but I’ve got the constitution of a wee Shetland pony – I just keep going,’ Lorraine said.
‘I’m going to be 60 next year so that’s a long time I’ve been doing it.
‘I think it would be really weird to retire,’ she added. ‘I can’t ever imagine myself not doing it. I’ve seen all these regime changes over the years but I think the most important thing is I genuinely love it.’

Lorraine has been on TV since 1984, landing a job hosting Good Morning Britain in 1990 before moving onto GMTV, ITV Breakfast and Daybreak.
She helped launch GMTV in 1993 before scoring her own show, Lorrain Live, which became Lorraine in 2009 and has been on our TV screens every weekday morning since.
‘I’ve been around for ages,’ she told the Is It Just Me? podcast. ‘I’ve grown up with everybody. At that time of the day a lot of people are watching in their kitchens or bedrooms, it’s a more intimate thing.’
And her fan base is another reason she admits she’s in no rush to say goodbye to her TV career.
‘When I’m walking about, people feel like they really know me. I think it’s lovely, it’s like I’m their pal.
‘It takes you two minutes to have a wee chat, a selfie, then off you go. People are genuinely really nice to me, it must be awful if you’re a soap baddie and people are shouting abuse.’
