Rylan opens up about Brexit, fatherhood and why he wrote his life story

TV presenter Rylan Clark-Neal has just released his autobiography and he talks marriage, fatherhood, his extraordinary career and politicians' lies

Rylan Clark-Neal has criticised both sides of the EU referendum argument for making 'a circus' out of their campaigns.

“When it comes down to this referendum, I do feel it has been made a complete circus of,” the TV star told the Press Association.

“I interviewed Boris Johnson on This Morning with Holly (Willoughby). There was one question I asked that got so much reaction from people.”

He continued: “The question was: ‘Who’s lying?’ It was just so confusing to the common person in the street – which is me.

“Regardless of my job, I am the common person walking down the street when it comes to all of this. I knew it would be close, but I genuinely thought we would remain.”

Formerly a contestant on The X Factor, Rylan has forged a successful career as a TV presenter.

The London-born star, 27, and his husband Dan Neal will be the first gay couple to present ITV’s flagship daytime show, This Morning, on July 8.

Rylan, the face of Big Brother’s Channel 5 sister show Big Brother’s Bit On The Side, has added another string to his bow by writing his autobiography.

He said: “I was approached to do a book when I came out of X Factor and I just thought that was embarrassing. I’d been on the telly for, like, five minutes.

“Towards the end of last year, I was approached again and I still didn’t want to do it. But I realised I’d done quite a lot in the last four years and it would be nice to document what I’d done.”

The Life Of Rylan documents his early life in Stepney through to his television appearances on Katie Price’s modelling reality series, Signed By Katie Price and The X Factor.

In 2013, a defining year, he won Celebrity Big Brother and met his husband when the former policeman was a Big Brother housemate.

They married two years later.

Despite being set up with a ghost writer, he ended up writing The Life Of Rylan himself.

“There’s been no one else involved in that book other than me: down to the layout, the photos, the way I’ve headed the chapter titles – everything is all me.

“And it’s not necessarily the me that you think you know,” he teased.

The Essex-raised personality said he had been 'one million percent honest' with The Life Of Rylan.

When asked what his husband thought of his writing, Rylan admitted: “Dan hasn’t read it yet because we’ve both been really busy.

“But my mum has read it and she rang me through the night about six or seven times, crying with laughter and crying with sadness.”

He added: “Bear in mind this is the first time she’s even known anything about what I’ve written, but she said, ‘You’ve done a really good job.’”

The Life Of Rylan took eight months to write and the TV favourite has said there may be more to come.

In the immediate future, however, his focus remains his burgeoning career, but Rylan is not ruling out having children.

“It’s definitely something that I would love to do at some point when the time is right,” he said.

“I’ve got my 16-year-old stepson, Dan’s son Cameron, who I adore so I’ve bypassed the first 16 years.

“But I would like to start from day dot and I’m sure it will happen.”
