Beyond therapy Martin Clunes returns as Dr Martin Ellingham and Caroline Catz is back as stylish school principle, Louisa Ellingham. Last year the couple had therapy to help their fractured marriage but is Louisa ready for the fresh challenge of living as a family with the Doc and their son, James Henry?  Let's face it, the village GP, with an aversion to blood and most of his patients, isn’t the easiest man to build a nest with! Martin Clunes revealed: “The Doc is as obstinate as ever, but he is trying his best to be a better husband and father.”

Auntie doesn’t know best Dame Eileen Atkins reprises her role as grumpy Aunt Ruth. When we catch up with her she unsurprisingly has doubts about her decision to go into business with unreliable Bert Large and his son, Al. Meanwhile, there could be trouble ahead when a man with information from Ruth's past makes a surprise appearance. Ooh, the intrigue!

Whiskey galore Bert Large (Ian MacNeice) is keen to make his home-distilled whiskey business a success however  a lack of willing customers could mean he has to shut up shop. No prizes for guessing what will happen to surplus stock!

Rocky road to love Meanwhile, Bert’s son Al (Joe Absolom) is proving to be unlucky in love and business. The B&B is failing and may have to close its doors permanently. Last year Al and Morwenna finally became an item, but can their new relationship survive the testing times ahead?

Elsewhere, the doc’s receptionist, Morwenna Newcross (Jessica Ransom) has heartache in store when her parents, Jack and Tara, suddenly turn up in Portwenn with some devastating news…

Wedding in the works There could be wedding bells in store for PC Joe Penhale (John Marquez) and James Henry’s nanny Janice Bone (Robyn Addison), who are planning their wedding and looking forward to marital bliss as Mr & Mrs Penhale. Will it all go to plan for the excited pair?

Running for the hills Pharmacist Mrs Tishell (Selina Cadell) returns as we’ve never seen her before and is persuaded by her husband Clive (Malcolm Storry)  to join his rigorous keep-fit regime. There may be Lycra involved!

Guest stars via Hollywood

Art Malik (True Lies, The Living Daylights, Cold Feet) is guest starring in the new series as John Rahmanzai, a visitor to Portwenn with shock news for Ruth. Meanwhile, Martin Clunes told What’s On TV, Hollywood legend, Sigourney Weaver, could be making a return to the show and hinted that Harvey Keitel could be following her to Cornwall! Read more here
