Emmerdale’s Michael Parr has revealed how Shaun Ryder – former frontman of The Happy Mondays – approached producers of the soap about a cameo role as a postman.

Michael, who plays bad boy Ross, was cornered by the star – who was runner up to winner Stacey Solomon in the 2010 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! – at at a glitzy bash.

The 28-year-old actor told Mirror Online: "I was at a charity event once and I see this guy and I recognise him and it's Shaun Ryder from the Happy Mondays.

"I walk over to him and he’s like, 'Y'alright, Ross. How are you?’

"I was like, 'Oh my god, he knows who I am. And I was like, ‘Mate, do you want to go get a pint?'

"He was like, 'Nah I don’t drink now, I'm clean innit … but you know your boss Kate? Do you reckon she’d let me be a postman in the show?"

However, Shaun, who previously had a cameo in C4's Shameless, beat Michael to it and got in touch with producer Kate Oates about starring in the soap.

He added: "I sent a text to Kate and apparently he’d already said he wants to be a postman in the show. If we could get him on for a couple of episodes that would be great.”
