Strictly Come Dancing to come out with same-sex dance couples?

Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor has asked BBC producers if he can be first to dance with a man on the hit show.

And sexy fellow pro Ola Jordan and judge Craig Revel Horwood are backing him.

The gay dancing pro - who is dating former X-Factor contestant Marcus Collins (pictured with Robin) - has reportedly spoken to Strictly bosses about having a same-sex couple on the show.

But he admits it might prove too shocking for regular viewers of the Saturday-night series, and instead sees a one-off like Children In Need or a Christmas special as the ideal place to do it.

“I’m not sure if the British public are ready for it,” Robin told The Daily Star.

“It would be a good way to test the waters. Then, if the public love it, why not go all out and do it for a full series? I’m up for anything.”

Robin’s comments came as the campaign for same-sex coupling on the BBC show gathered momentum, following outrage at the British Dance Council’s threats to ban same-gender couples from some competitions.

Strictly’s Ola Jordan, 31, has also urged BBC producers to come out and try it, whether viewers are ready for it or not.

"Let’s try it. Why not? I don’t know if the audience is ready. But unless you try you won’t know," Ola said. "I think there will be pressure from fans for Strictly to do it. So if it’s not this year, hopefully it’ll happen next year."

Offering to be half of the first all-female couple, Ola added: "I've never danced with a woman so I don't know how that would be. But I'd give it a go.

"Women move in a different way to men, so it would be a new challenge to think about."

Show judge Craig, 49, also backed the campaign for an all-male or all-female pair on the Saturday night show, which regularly tops 11million viewers.

He said: "I think they should have two men or two women together. It might be the right time, with gay marriage a national debate.

"Why not? I would love to see it."

Will it happen? We'll soon see. Strictly Come Dancing is due to return to BBC1 in the autumn.
