Strictly Come Dancing's first week of competition ended on a real high on Saturday night for some of the celebrity dancers but especially The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge.

She danced a waltz with Kevin Clifton and got the highest score of Week One from the judges, 30/40, including eights from head judge Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli.

‘That, without a doubt, is the best dance of Week One,’ Len told Frankie.

‘A major hit,’ Darcey Bussell agreed. ‘Beautiful feeling throughout and a joy to watch.’

Even the notoriously difficult to please Craig Revel Horwood loved it, describing Frankie’s moves as ‘graceful and elegant’.

EastEnders’ Jake Wood, who had danced a tango the night before, was knocked off his top spot on the scoreboard but stayed in second place.

The other eight celebrities who danced on the second night, with Frankie, had mixed results.

Blue singer Simon Webbe “did a really fantastic job” with his jive and scored 27/40.

This Morning’s Alison Hammond danced a “joyous” cha-cha-cha said Craig and tied with wildlife presenter Steve Backshall on 26/40. “Not quite a triumph,” said Len of Steve’s tango.

Casualty’s Sunetra Sarker danced a “firecracker of a tango”, said Bruno and joined reality TV star Mark Wright on a score of 24/40. “You have fantastic potential,” Len told Mark after his Cha-cha-cha. Mark’s fiancée, former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan, was in the audience and, by the look on her face, she agreed with Len.

Former rugby player-turned-model Thom Evans danced a waltz and was told to “be more sexy next time” by Bruno, scoring 23/40.

That left Mrs Brown’s Boys star Jenny Gibney in last place, with a score of 18/40 for her jive. “We’re hoping we’ll have the luck of the Irish,” Jenny said, but she didn’t.
