Best TV shows on TV tonight

Strictly Come Dancing, 6.30 pm, BBC One

As with every year, as soon as the cast of Strictly is announced, people start wondering which celebrities might get within touching distance of that coveted glitterball trophy. While the likes of TV presenter Helen Skelton, pop star Fleur East and former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh were among the early front runners, after the first live show Will Mellor was the one everybody was talking about. Making his dance debut with an energetic jive to Ricky Martin’s Livin’ La Vida Loca, the Hollyoaks and Coronation Street star, who is partnered with Nancy Xu, proved that he was the one to watch. Could we be looking at the people’s champion?

Let The Right One In, Paramount Plus

Ten years after his young daughter Eleanor (Madison Taylor Baez) was bitten and turned into a vampire, Mark Kane (Demián Bichir) brings her back to New York, believing he is close to finding a cure for her condition — but keeping her safe, alive and fed with a constant supply of fresh human blood is far from easy. Much like the acclaimed 2008 Swedish film that it draws inspiration (and its name) from, this 10-part series blends fantasy and the supernatural with a more human story: in this case, a father who will stop at nothing to save his daughter’s soul.

The Masked Dancer, 6.30 pm, ITV

Another mystery dancer will be unmasked tonight... (Image credit: ITV)

It’s safe to say that the panel comprising Davina, Jonathan Ross, Oti and Peter has been finding it rather hard to guess the identities of our secret celebrities so far this series. Perhaps they could all do with a little bit of help — ideally from someone with plenty of experience? Well, they’re in luck because tonight Mo Gilligan returns to the show as a special guest panelist, ready to throw out some speculations of his own, but will he be any nearer the mark when it comes to deciphering those cruelly cryptic clues? We’ll find out when the latest dancer is unmasked right before our eyes…

Casualty, 9.15 pm, BBC One

Adi (Baj (Bajaj) is poised for a scrap in Casualty

When Robyn fails to turn up to the surrogacy scan, Adi  (Raj Bajaj) shows his true colors — and they’re ugly. Shockingly, even when it comes to light that she’s fighting for her life due to IVF treatment, Adi continues with his outrageous behavior. Disgusted, Paul starts a pushy-shovey with the social worker, leading to a comedy scrap in the ED. Fight Club it ain't! Whatever the outcome of Robyn’s emergency treatment, it looks like Adi has a one-way ticket to Dumpsville. Elsewhere, Stevie is determined to clear beds, but at what cost?

Best box set to watch on TV tonight

The Bear, Disney Plus

Jeremy Allen White as Carmy in The Bear

Shameless US star Jeremy Allen White stars as young chef Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto in this critically acclaimed comedy-drama. Carmy has made a success of himself in the world of fine dining, but after the tragic suicide of his brother, he returns home to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop, The Original Beef of Chicagoland. It’s a different world for Carmy, who must try to get the uncooperative staff on board, cope with family rifts and navigate the tricky challenges of small business, all the while facing his own grief.

Best film to watch on TV tonight

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, 8.40 pm, Channel 4

Although some die-hard fans had issues with this instalment, the rest of humanity gave it a resounding thumbs-up. For the first time in the saga, the story veers off into unexpected places, as Daisy Ridley’s Rey must convince a grizzled, taciturn Luke Skywalker (a terrific turn by Mark Hamill) to join the Rebellion, while Finn (John Boyega) goes off on a caper with new chum Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran). But it’s Adam Driver as deeply conflicted bad guy Kylo Ren who dominates proceedings in an adventure that occasionally is so visually stunning it’ll leave you breathless.
