The 40 acts to make it to the final of this year's Britain's Got Talent have been announced, ahead of the start of the live heats on Sunday. The names of the lucky 40 were revealed at the end of Saturday's show, following the last highlights from the countrywide auditions. And they include singer Susan Boyle, who has found global fame since her audition was shown on the first programme of the series, teenage singer Shaun Smith and dance troupe Flawless, whose audition was described by Simon Cowell as "one of the best things I've ever seen in my life". A whole host of younger performers, including singer-dancer Hollie Steel, dancer Aidan Davis and 10-year-old singer Natalie Okri have also made it through. Patrick McLennan

Patrick McLennan is a London-based journalist and documentary maker who has worked as a writer, sub-editor, digital editor and TV producer in the UK and New Zealand. His CV includes spells as a news producer at the BBC and TVNZ, as well as web editor for Time Inc UK. He has produced TV news and entertainment features on personalities as diverse as Nick Cave, Tom Hardy, Clive James, Jodie Marsh and Kevin Bacon and he co-produced and directed The Ponds, which has screened in UK cinemas, BBC Four and is currently available on Netflix. 


An entertainment writer with a diverse taste in TV and film, he lists Seinfeld, The Sopranos, The Chase, The Thick of It and Detectorists among his favourite shows, but steers well clear of most sci-fi.
