Former UKIPer Winston McKenzie became the first Celebrity to be evicted from the Big Brother house in last night’s show. He was up against Strictly Come Dancing’s Kristina Rihanoff and Nancy Dell'Olio, the former partner of football coach Sven-Göran Eriksson.
But the 62-year-old, whose name was reluctantly put up for eviction by fellow housemate and Geordie Shores star Scotty T, didn’t go without a fuss, claiming that he was “set up” by CBB’s female housemates whose suggestive behaviour had encouraged him to reveal the “red-blooded male” side of his personality.
After the eviction, he told reporters: “It's down to the females to conduct themselves in such a manner that isn't so explicit.”
Following Nancy's complaints to Big Brother, in which she admitted to feeling “uncomfortable” about sleeping in the bed next to Winston's, as well as criticising him for watching her get undressed, he said: “I’m a red blooded male. If a lady walks past, of course I'm going to look.” He stressed, however, that Nancy wasn’t the woman who had tried to get a reaction from him, while refusing to name those who, in his opinion, “were dressed very revealingly”.
The former boxer’s comments about homosexuality were also challenged, but he denied having made homophobic remarks as he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house and hit out at the "grotesque" allegations. Celebrity Big Brother's Bit On the Side host Emma Willis challenged his behaviour and comments, but it was her co-presenter Rylan Clark who refused to let Winston off the hook, grilling him about allegedly comparing gay adoption to child abuse.
Rylan, who recently married husband Dan Neal and is planning to start a family, had one question: "Do you think I should be allowed to adopt?"
Looking slightly embarrassed, Winston replied: “Well, it wouldn't upset me because we live in a democracy.
“If that is what you want to do then do it. Live your life according to whatever. Feel free to do that. I won’t campaign against you.” Rylan persisted, asking if Winston would change the law on gay rights if he were ever made prime minister.
"No, no I would’t change it," Winston insisted. "But I’m grateful to live in England where we have the freedom to express our opinions.” To which Rylan retorted: “Well, I’m grateful that I can live in this country as a gay British man and I’m grateful that the straight and gay community are free to adopt.
“I have a career, I have a home, I’ve just got married - I’m all set up. I can’t wait to have kids!”
