Corrie's John Michie: 'Karl turns bad!'

Coronation Street's John Michie explains to Soaplife how Karl goes to the dark side in his bid to win back Stella in the ITV1 soap...

Karl can't take 'no' for an answer from Stella, can he?

"He’s that arrogant and big-headed that he absolutely believes that Stella still loves him and that she’s trying not to love him."

So Karl kidnaps her so they can 'talk' next week! That's not right!

"He feels like he has to get her on her own and away from the Rovers to talk to her. He wants her to see that deep down she knows that they should be together and he wants to do that in a calm, controlled way. He believes it is the right thing to do to make her listen!"

It sounds more like Karl's becoming dangerously obsessive!

"Possibly. His love is obsessive. He will do whatever it takes to get Stella back. He will go to the extremes and will not take no for an answer. His behaviour gets a bit weird and creepy, but he just can’t see it. There’s almost something a bit psychotic in his behaviour towards Stella."

Are you excited by the turn your character is taking?

"I am. It’s always interesting to play the bad guy. Karl's essentially not evil, though... Initially he has a plan, but it all goes horribly wrong, and then he has to catch up with the events. It’s the events themselves that turn him bad."
