Ex Coronation Street star Ken Morley: ‘The MasterChef judges are sadists!’

Former Coronation Street star Ken Morley says MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace are 'sadists'.

This week Ken battles it out in the MasterChef kitchen with fellow celebrities, including former Waterloo Road headmistress Amanda Burton, EastEnders star Emma Barton, JLS singer JB Gill and presenter Alison Hammond.

Best known as Coronation Street's jovial shopkeeper Reg Holdsworth, Ken told What's on TV: “There were some unusual results. Things didn’t turn out as I expected but I can’t tell you why. All I can say is MasterChef was a very exhilarating, confusing and terrifying and event for me.”

He added: “You stand in front of the two judges who look at you as if you’ve committed some dreadful crime! They gave us all a hard time – there was no mercy. They should be hanged in public, both of them, as sadists!’

The first heat of this week's MasterChef (BBC2, Thursday-Friday) sees the stars trying to cook homemade burgers. The second challenge is working the morning shift in a busy London kitchen. While in the third test all competitors must prepare a two-course meal of their own invention. Then judges John and Gregg decide who stays and who goes.

“To be honest, I said yes to MasterChef without really knowing what it entailed. I quickly realised there’s a big difference in being an amateur at something you’re interested in, and being a professional. But you enter into the spirit of the occasion and try to persuade judges John and Gregg you’re not bad!”
