Coronation Street star Anthony Cotton has discovered the benefit of starring in the nation's favourite programme - wardens rip up his parking fines. The actor, who plays Sean Tully, had parked on Queen Street in Manchester city centre, but the only ticket machine on the street was not working and bore a sign which said, 'Out of order - use next machine'. His car was then given a ticket by a patrolling warden - until he protested. The soap star then telephoned the Manchester Evening News. "I am standing here with a traffic warden and I am furious," he told the paper. "I tried to pay, but the machine isn't working and there is no other machine on this street." More wardens arrived and after discussing the matter they decided, unlike millions of other motorists, the actor should be exempt from getting a ticket. A 'delighted' Antony then signed autographs for the gathering of star-struck attendants, before leaving minus the fine, the paper reported. If a ticket has already been issued it can only normally be cancelled by going through an appeals process. It is not clear how the wardens decided to cancel the actor's ticket. It is thought one warden phoned a supervisor who gave the go-ahead. No one from Manchester City Council was available for comment.
