Coronation street star Jane Danson, famed for her role as Leanne, has opened up about her baby heartache and the challenges of Leanne's pregnancy storyline.

Coronation Street actress Jane Danson has opened up about losing her baby for the first time.

Jane bravely spoke about losing the child and admitted her character Leanne’s pregnancy was proving to be a challenge.

Mum-of-two Jane told The Sun: “I’m always asked if I’m broody so I’m going to be completely honest – and I kind of feel in a good place to say it – I actually lost a baby a couple of years ago.

“It does make me feel a bit sad, and it’s been difficult at times, but it’s Leanne going through it, not me.

“I’ve got two wonderful children, so I know how lucky I am.”

Jane is currently in the middle of one of the most challenging storylines of her career, admitting: “The Steve-Michelle-Leanne baby plot is set to explode at some point.”

But it’s about to get more intense after the arrival of her character’s sister, Toyah.

Former hellraiser Toyah arrives back on the cobbles and announces to Leanne that their planned Christmas in Liverpool is off.

Actress Georgia Taylor is returning to the cobbles after nearly 14 years after leaving the soap in 2003.

In a previous interview Georgia said she was ‘hugely excited’ to explore the character of Toyah more than a decade after leaving the ITV show.

“I am thrilled to be rejoining my old friends on the cobbles,” Georgia said.

“Coronation Street has always had a place in my heart and I’m delighted to be working again with my good friend Jane Danson and bringing the Battersby sisters back together.

“The scriptwriters and producers have come up with some fantastic, clever and detailed storylines that have inspired me and I feel excited to get started.”

Toyah Battersby

The 36-year-old was last seen on the cobbles in February 2003 when she left Weatherfield after discovering her college lecturer boyfriend had got her friend pregnant.

Speaking about Toyah's return, Corrie producer Kate Oates said: “I am delighted that Georgia Taylor has agreed to return to the role of Toyah. She is a talented actress who has had great success since leaving the show in 2003.

“Family relationships are the lifeblood of soap operas and I am excited to explore the drama that Toyah will bring with her to the cobbles. She has led an interesting life away from Weatherfield and she has secrets she has kept even from Leanne.

“Her arrival this Christmas looks set to put the cat amongst the Coronation Street pigeons.”
