Johnny Briggs misses The Street
Actor Johnny Briggs has revealed that he misses Coronation Street since leaving last year - and is still a fan of the soap. The 71-year-old, who collected an MBE for services to drama on Wednesday, played Mike Baldwin for three decades before retiring. As he collected his award, he revealed that the Queen asked him why he left Coronation Street, commenting that it "must have been quite fun". He said: "I replied, 'It was fun, it was fantastic'. I miss the crew very, very much. Working 30 years in any company, you see them come in as young boys. "It's one big happy family - I never saw any arguments the whole time I was there." He added: "When I was a little boy and I used to drive past the Palace, I never thought I would get through the gates - let alone meet the Queen and have the honour of getting an MBE." And he said that he did wonder what Mike would have done in some of the existing storylines. "The joy of the Street is there isn't what you would call a star. I think the star of Coronation Street is the Rovers Return. "Even though the cast changes, the Street is still strong, and I put that down to the writers." The London-born actor won a Lifetime Achievement gong at the British Soap Awards last year.
