Vic Reeves may be heading to Coronation Street as the mysterious Colin, but don’t expect to find his comedy partner Bob Mortimer following in his footsteps.

Vic – real name Jim Moir – says his long-time friend would be no good on the soap, because he’s shocking at learning lines.

"He can’t remember any lines; he’s terrible at lines," said a smiling Jim. "He can get in the general area and he’s a good actor, but put some lines in front of him and he’d be all over the place!"

Asked which comedians he would love to see cast on the ITV soap, the 58 year old confessed: "I don’t know any comedians. I don’t watch comedy on television. I watch Coronation Street and dramas. I’m watching Doctor Foster at the moment."

As for his character, Vic said: "Colin is a very mysterious and strange bloke. He’s self-obsessed, and always talks about himself in the third person. He believes that he’s alright – but he’s very odd and not as nice as he might think he is. He works for News Co, who run the Mr and Mrs competition, and he’s got ulterior motives that will be revealed in time…"
