Dancing On Ice: Steve's luck finally runs out

Javelin champ Steve Backley has become the latest celeb to be voted out of Dancing on Ice - after being saved by the judges for three weeks. Backley - who had been the favourite to go - found himself in the bottom two for the fourth week in a row, this time alongside Corrie actress Zaraah Abrahams. In previous weeks he had seen off competition from Samantha Mumba, Aggie Mackenzie and Tim Vincent - however this time around the judges voted unanimously to save Zaraah. Steve admitted afterwards he was "disappointed" to be leaving. "But I also feel as though I've got away with it," he said. "Having the prosthetic hip is a big deal, it has been my stumbling block, I had to get over that inhibition." "But I feel I have done and I'm delighted to have got as far as I have, to have met all these wonderful people - and even the judges have been good occasionally." Ironically, this week's show - in which the seven remaining couples perform 60s themed routines - saw Steve receive his highest score from the judges yet, with the panel praising his improvement on the ice. There were also plaudits for Gareth Gates and the favourite, Chris Fountain - who scored highly despite some problems earlier in the week. The 20-year-old was said to be "devastated" after dropping skating partner Frankie Poultney on her head on the ice, during rehearsals on Friday. The skater needed emergency medical treatment as a result. Meanwhile Suzanne Shaw divided the judges with her routine to Dionne Warwick's Walk On By - so much so that a row erupted between Karen Barber, Nicky Slater and Jason Gardiner, after he gave her a relatively low score. "There's very little skating," he said of the routine. Karen, who said the performance was "the best of the evening," told Nicky he had "missed the point" before Jason Gardiner joined in. "It's not easy doing all those lifts and tricks," he pointed out, "and I think you've underestimated her."
