First look at BBC Doctors special Christmas episode!
The BBC1 daytime medical drama has got a festive treat for its fans – and we’ve got a preview right here
BBC1’s daytime medical drama Doctors is celebrating Christmas with a special festive episode, dedicated to the retelling of the classic Charles Dickens novel ‘A Christmas Carol’.
The Mill gang decide to stage the performance when Dr Zara [Elisabeth Dermot-Walsh] discovers her son has been cast as a bungalow in the school nativity and she wants to cheer him up.
But, as with any production, the preparations are not without their thrills and spills. The entire cast are involved with each taking on one or more roles from the well-known story. With Dr Sid [Ashley Rice] getting naked, a rap from Valerie [Sarah Moyle] and a series of tantrums from Heston [Owen Brenman] the auditions should prove a real treat for viewers.
Doctors is well-known for its Christmas efforts; in the past they have staged their own pantomime and cast calendar.
In contrast to the light-heartedness of the rehearsals, though, the final Christmas Carol performance is played straight and the episode is dedicated purely to the play with no other storylines involved. This gives the cast a chance to showcase different sides to their characters and provides something completely unique for BBC Daytime.
BBC Doctors Series Producer Peter Lloyd said “Every so often we do an episode that is slightly different, and this is one of them,” says series producer Peter Lloyd. “It’s a filmed theatre piece, with some television trickery, music, songs and even a dance. I like to think of it as our Christmas gift to the audience.”
