The BBC has announced that BBC1 and programmes such as EastEnders, The Apprentice and Strictly Come Dancing will soon be shown in HD. The new high-definition channel will launch on Wednesday, November 3 at 7pm across all HD platforms including Freeview and Sky. That night, programmes including The One Show, new series, Wallace and Gromit: World of Inventions, Nigel Slater's Simple Suppers, The Apprentice and Film 2010 will all shown in high definition. EastEnders will be broadcast for the first time in HD on Christmas Day, allowing fans of the soap to catch all the drama in even more vivid detail. Bryan Kirkwood, executive producer of EastEnders said: "Christmas Day in Walford is traditionally, turkey, tinsel and turmoil for the residents of Albert Square. This year will be even more spectacular with viewers having the opportunity to watch the festive drama unfold in HD for the first time." Jane Bennett, director of BBC Vision said: "Whether it's seeing the flicker of irriation on Lord Sugar's face in a boardroom showdown or watching the beads of sweat fly from the dancers on Strictly, BBC One HD is the biggest sign yet that HD viewing is now part of the mainstream." The autumn launch is the first stage in delivering BBC One in HD. The majority of programmes in the BBC One network evening schedule will be available in HD at launch and by 2010 it's expected that the majority of the channel's titles across all hours will be in HD.
