EastEnders spoiler: Kat and Alfie Moon’s twin boys to be named after Muppets Bert and Ernie
EastEnders’ executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has decided to name Kat and Alfie’s twin boys after the Muppet characters from Sesame Street.
“Kat and Alfie are such big characters it was only right their twins had strong names,” a soap source told the Daily Star.
Viewers of the BBC1 soap will see pregnant Kat, played by Jessie Wallace, and Alfie (Shane Richie) rush to the hospital when she goes into labour.
As the couple prepare for the birth of their babies, fans can expect lots of emotional drama.
Producers are staying tight-lipped about the details of the births, but insiders say the episodes are so good there will be tears of joy up and down the country.
In true Kat and Alfie style they also manage to raise a smile by calling the boys Bert and Ernie, after the popular TV puppets.
“Everyone remembers Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street. They were a right pair, which is exactly what Kat and Alfie’s babies are going to be,” added the insider.

And, of course, Alfie’s favourite term of endearment for his friends is “muppet”.
After the births the couple will struggle to make ends meet.
The insider said: “They already have son Tommy to feed and when the twins come home it’s going to have a huge impact on their day-to-day lives.
“But of course it’s going to make great viewing.
“Their lives are going to get crazier than ever.”
Treadwell-Collins was also responsible for naming the Carter family’s British bulldog Lady Di.
An EastEnders spokesman said: “We don’t comment on storylines as we don’t want to ruin it for fans.”
