The hippo and David Attenborough – a beautiful pairing as we'll see in new one-off BBC2 documentary Hippos: Africa’s River Giants

Sir David Attenborough returns to our screens in Hippos: Africas River Giants, BBC2’s enthralling one-off where this time he lends his familiar, pitch-perfect narration to the life of the hippopotamus.

If you think the struggle to survive in the animal kingdom is daunting for most wildlife, hippos surely have it as tough as most.

Sir David Attenborough talks us through the life of hippos in BBC2’s Hippos: Africa’s River Giants

Despite its formidable size and dangerous reputation, hippos can neither swim nor survive for long without being submerged in water.

It’s a life-long balancing act made more perilous in Botswana’s Okavango delta, where floodwaters dry up in months.

Featuring underwater footage, cameras also follow hippos as they raise their calves, face enemies and deal with drought.
