When Charlie snaps David pushes back, Jade and Iain’s medical futures are uncertain, and Connie lays down the law

With staff shortages and everyone overworked nurse David Hide wants to know why experienced co-worker Lisa ‘Duffy’ Duffin has been sidelined to clerical duties by their boss Charlie Fairhead. Meanwhile in Casualty Jade and Iain’s careers are on the line and Connie calls for stricter protocols. Elsewhere, is Ruby in danger from a seemingly harmless admirer?

There’s tension in the ED this week among the overworked nursing personnel. But when David asks Charlie about his decision to put Duffy on administrative detail, while everyone else struggles to keep hospital deadlines, he comes into unexpectedly violent conflict with Charlie!

Unknown to David, and everyone else, Duffy’s estranged husband has taken her off medical rotations since finding out she’s been diagnosed with vascular dementia. Charlie is insisting they keep her illness secret from co-workers even though Duffy’s devastated by his decision to bury her shocking news.

With Charlie snapping at everyone, especially inexperienced junior nurse Jade Lovall, and Duffy clearly upset, this week David sets out to discover what exactly is going on. When he confronts Charlie at the end of a difficult shift, however, the situation quickly escalates!

Charlie panics as David begins to piece together that something is wrong with Duffy. As David inches closer to the truth stressed Charlie completely loses his temper and turns aggressive, causing David to retaliate! Is the situation about to turn ugly?

Nurse Duffy dreads another day doing paperwork while her co-workers struggle to deal with medical duties.

When Connie insists on Duffy’s presence in Resus because a pregnant patient needs urgent treatment, she rushes to fulfil the request.

Will Charlie stand in Duffy’s way of treating the frightened mum-to-be?

Connie is outraged to learn the ED is facing fines because of missed targets in the department and lays down the law with Charlie. This adds to the pressure Charlie’s feeling from all sides, and contributes to his physical showdown with David later!
