Six years ago, ‘adoption parties’ caused controversy when they were introduced in the US.
The idea is to introduce prospective adopters, who usually prefer to adopt a baby or toddler, to harder-to-place children, such as sibling groups, children over the age of five or those with additional needs.
The theory is that once people meet the children, they’ll be more likely to adopt them – and it’s proved successful so far, with one in four children who attend a party getting adopted.
This new series follows children’s charity Coram as they host Adoption Activity Days in the UK with the hope of finding children new homes.
