Dean finally comes face-to-face with his dad Rick, who ran out on Dean and his mum Karen years earlier. But will it be a happy family reunion?

Dean Thompson is in for a DOUBLE shocker when he finally meets his runaway dad Rick Booth and discovers he also has a secret half-sister Kayla!

Unfortunately, it isn't hugs all round as former football player Rick confesses he didn't discover Dean's mum Karen was pregnant until after the baby was born. By that time, Rick was married with a child on the way.

Sensing wealthy Rick has no place in his life for either Dean or his mum Karen, currently receiving help for her mental health problems, Dean turns around and leaves. Is this the end for Dean, Rick and Kayla?

Simon has long been a fan of soap operas, and especially loves OVER-THE-TOP plots involving evil twins, hair-pulling catfights and natural disasters.

Anyone remember the Sunset Beach earthquake/tidal wave?

Or when Krystle Carrington got locked in the attic and replaced by look-a-like Rita in Dynasty?!

He has reported LIVE from the red carpet at The British Soap Awards interviewing glammed-up stars from soapland, and hosted a Facebook LIVE session for Metro with Home and Away legend Ray Meagher (Alf "Stone the flamin' crows!" Stewart) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Aussie soap.
