An insight into the real problems faced by the NHS, this series, filmed across five hospitals in London, follows the extraordinary decisions consultants, surgeons and bed managers must make on a daily basis.

The series kicks off with a life-and-death situation at St Mary's in Paddington.

Two patients require urgent surgery, but the hospital is full to capacity and there's only one bed in intensive care… Consultant Simon Ashworth has to make the difficult decision about who to prioritise.
