This likeable romcom stars Beattie Edmondson as a harried young London teacher who is aghast when she inherits Patrick the pug.

Edmondson (daughter of comedy icons Jennifer Saunders and Adrian Edmondson) is in the Bridget Jones-mould of romantic comedy klutz, the kind of ditsy slob who wears a dress back to front and whose love life is a disaster.

But her hapless efforts to care for dribbling, disobedient, highly spoilt and demanding Patrick, bequeathed to her by her grandmother, lead her to cross paths with two potential love interests in the shape of a hunky jogger (Ed Skrein) and a fellow dog walker (Tom Bennett).

Helmed by Absolutely Fabulous director Mandie Fletcher, this genial, undemanding movie may not have the pedigree of its romcom precursors, but Edmondson makes a charming heroine and her canine co-star will win over susceptible dog lovers.

And look out for a nod to the viral video of a few years ago in which an exasperated dog owner tried to stop his pet from chasing deer in Richmond Park ('Fenton!’).

This film premieres on Saturday 9 March.
