Seth Rogen and chums have a ball with this rude and raunchy animated comedy set in the aisles of a supermarket filled with sex-mad talking food products.

It’s a clever, brilliantly animated, close-to-the-knuckle satire but, be warned, how much fun you have will depend on your tolerance for a diet of non-stop swearing and filthy innuendo.

The premise is that the supermarket groceries blithely worship 'the gods' - shoppers - who will take them to a life of bliss in 'the Great Beyond'. Then Rogen's horny hot dog sausage, eager to get it on with Kristen Wiig's curvaceous roll, learns the horrifying truth of the fate that actually awaits them.

The film serves up some taboo-busting gags on religion and ethnic strife, including a hilarious sequence in which the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is played out between a neurotic Jewish bagel who sounds like Woody Allen (Edward Norton) and a bellicose Arab flatbread (David Krumholtz), and there are some excellent set-pieces, particularly a fabulous ‘shootout’ sequence.
