Susan Calman heads behind the scenes at Gretna Green, discovers her own clan tartan, and learns the secrets of herding sheep in Secret Scotland
In this week's Secret Scotland, Susan Calman heads behind the scenes at Gretna Green, discovers her own clan tartan, and learns the secrets of herding sheep
The penultimate part of Susan Calman’s great Scottish adventure is a serene and scenic affair of the heart.
Gambolling around the Borders, Susan pops in to Gretna Green, where she hears about the region’s iconic romantic status and witnesses a wedding while she’s there.
This is followed by fly-fishing in the River Tweed, where the Strictly Come Dancing star angles for compliments.
Later, Susan tackles Rugby Sevens in Melrose, sheepishly helps a border collie with herding his flock, and visits Sir Walter Scott’s impressive gaff before revealing the resting place of Robert the Bruce’s heart. Yes, his actual heart.

As TV Times Highlights Editor I get to hear about all the latest TV shows coming soon. Here at TVT HQ we are in the privileged position of selecting the best programmes from across all the channels and streaming platforms. Our mission is to make it easier for our readers to decide what to watch - and give them lots of choice of genres - all the latest shows, plus some nostalgic choices we call hidden gems, too. My career began with a postgraduate degree in periodical journalism (ahem, yes old school!) in 1991 and I’ve worked in TV media since 2000.
