During World War Two, a raffish George Clooney puts together a crack team to carry out a daredevil escapade to save Europe's artworks.

This fact-based adventure tells the fascinating story of the unlikely platoon of experts who strove to stop Hitler's attempted theft of the valuable treasures – but are they worth dying for?

As director, co-writer, co-producer and star, Clooney fails to make the film as exciting as you might hope and the tone is uncertain, wavering between comic guys-on-a-mission jauntiness and perilous, race-against-time-suspense.

However, there is plenty of appeal here, with a cast of international treasures including Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Hugh Bonneville and Jean Dujardin.
