The World’s Most Scenic Railway Journeys

Norway’s Dovre and Rauma lines (and a few trolls) are featured in this week's The World’s Most Scenic Railway Journeys on Channel 5

One of The World’s Most Scenic Railway Journeys is the Dovre and Rauma lines through Norway, from Oslo to Bodø in the Arctic Circle, as we see in the Channel 5 series this week.

It’s a magical journey, with snow-capped mountains towering above beautiful lakes and valleys, and mile after glorious mile of forest.

Watch out for the Troll Peaks, the tallest vertical rockface in Europe, where the line changes to the Rauma railway, which features dramatic fjords opening out along the Rauma river (pictured above).

The train also passes through reindeer country, and onto Bodø, where in Summer the sun doesn’t set for six weeks, whereas in Winter the remote town is plunged into darkness for 23 hours a day. 

Heaven for train buffs and scenery that will definitely get you in the mood for Christmas.
