Fugitives Luke Mably Tricia Helfer

Taking a holiday in the Bahamas in a bid to repair their fraying marriage, Creighton (Luke Mably) and Lydia (Tricia Helfer) get a chance to see how the 1% live but end up running foul of modern-day pirates.

Purportedly inspired by true events, low-budget thriller Fugitives (aka Isolation) spends far too much time on the couple’s not especially engaging marital drama. But things do step up a gear when Dominic Purcell’s shaven-headed bruiser turns up with his wild girlfriend (Chelsea Edmundsen).

You will, though, have to take the later plot turns with an extra large pinch of sea-salt, especially when Mably’s hero starts pulling off feats of endurance that would put a hardened triathlete to shame.

Certificate 15. Runtime 92 mins. Director Shane Dax Taylor.

Fugitives is currently showing on Sky Cinema Premiere. Available on DVD & Digital from 101 Films.

Jason Best

A film critic for over 25 years, Jason admits the job can occasionally be glamorous – sitting on a film festival jury in Portugal; hanging out with Baz Luhrmann at the Chateau Marmont; chatting with Sigourney Weaver about The Archers – but he mostly spends his time in darkened rooms watching films. He’s also written theatre and opera reviews, two guide books on Rome, and competed in a race for Yachting World, whose great wheeze it was to send a seasick film critic to write about his time on the ocean waves. But Jason is happiest on dry land with a classic screwball comedy or Hitchcock thriller.
