Scott Major quits Neighbours

Neighbours actor Scott Major has left the soap after filming his final scenes.

The 37-year-old actor, who has played teacher Lucas Fitzgerald since he joined the Australian show in 2008, celebrated his five-year stint with a farewell party.

A Neighbours spokesman confirmed his departure to Digital Spy.

Lucas will leave screens later this year, and details of his exit storyline are being kept under wraps. It is not known if Lucas's girlfriend Vanessa Villante (played by Alin Sumarwata) will join him in leaving Ramsay Street.

A Neighbours source said: "There's a big few months ahead for Lucas. After so many ups and downs with Vanessa, it'll be interesting to see whether the couple get a happy ending or if there's more heartbreak in store."

Scott, who's on a tour around Europe, was introduced in July 2008 as Lucas, the edgy younger brother of Daniel Fitzgerald (Brett Tucker).

His storylines have included re-connecting with his brother, fighting a gambling addiction, developing romantic relationships with Elle Robinson (Pippa Black), Stephanie Scully (Carla Bonner) and Vanessa, being injured in a motorbike accident and getting involved in illegal street racing. The former mechanic was also diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year.

Scott, who previously played Darren Stark on the Australian show in 1993, has directed several episodes of Neighbours and took charge of Steph's webisodes.
