Rylan Clark-Neal says it's a privilege to have worked on the 'most iconic show on television' as Channel 5 reveal Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother are both ending
The new series of Big Brother, which starts tonight on Channel 5, will be the last as the broadcaster also confirmed it's ending Celebrity Big Brother - Rylan Clark-Neal said he was "saddened by the news" that the shows would be finishing.
Channel 5 has been showing Big Brother, which originally started on C4 in 2000, since 2011, but it's now been revealed that the show starting tonight will be the final one on the channel.
Rylan Clark-Neal tweeted: "It has been the biggest privilege being a housemate, a winner and a host on my favourite show on the television."
Channel 5 said in a statement: “The forthcoming series of Big Brother will be the last – of either celebrity or civilian versions – on Channel 5. We’d like to thank Endemol and all of the production team who have worked tirelessly to make the show a success.
“We’d also like to thank our brilliant presenters – Emma (Willis) on Big Brother and Rylan (Clark-Neal) from Bit On The Side – for their consummate professionalism, Marcus (Bentley), the voice of Big Brother and all of the housemates who have created so many memorable moments.
“Most importantly, we’d like to thank fans of the show for their support over the last seven years. We look forward to giving the final series a brilliant send-off.”
It is of course possible that both Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother could return one day on another channel. The 2018 Celebrity Big Brother final was watched by 1.6 million viewers as former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas was crowned the winner.
The first ever series of Big Brother was won by Craig Phillips back in 2000, with the show back then attracting over four million fans on C4. Another famous Big Brother winner was Brian Dowling, who claimed the second series in 2001.
