James Arthur films ‘bizarre’ Brazilian soap: ‘It was watched by millions’

James was called upon after his song featured in the soap

James Arthur is not a name you would usually associate with a soap opera – but the singer has only gone and starred in one of the biggest in the world!

Watched by 50 million people, O Tempo Não Para (Crashing Into the Future), is a Brazilian telenova that is only in its second year but has already amassed a huge fan base.

And after using one of James’ songs for a steamy scene, his single Naked shot to the top of charts and he was even asked to fly over and make a cameo – and the whole experience, according to James, was “bizarre”.

"'Naked' was featured in a finale episode, and they played literally the whole song throughout this steamy romance scene,” he told Dermot O'Leary on his BBC Radio 2 show.

“I think it was watched by millions and millions of people and they had the idea to have me come and perform in the show, so I kind of played a gig within the soap opera and the couple from the previous steamy romance scene were having a moment there as well.”

And after his experience, James claims loved British soaps like EastEnders and Coronation Street could learn a thing or two.

He added: "It was bizarre to be in that production level. I mean, we have EastEnders and Coronation Street and no disrespect to them, I'm sure a lot goes into that, but they pump this out every day and it's got movie quality production to that. It was a big deal."
