Presenter Kate Silverton has told how she had given up hope of ever having children until her 'miracle' pregnancy. The BBC Breakfast host - due to give birth in October - believed she was unable to conceive naturally and had attempted medical intervention. In an interview with Hello! magazine, the 41-year-old admitted she was 'stunned' to find that she was suddenly expecting. "This baby is the closest it gets to a miracle for me," she said. Kate had been told she was unlikely to get pregnant without help after losing an ovary during an operation to remove a cyst when she was 29. The presenter and husband Mike Heron had tried four cycles of IVF and acupuncture without success. The couple had also considered adoption. Kate tells the magazine: "Mike and I resigned ourselves to being childless. We felt desperately sad about it but, as a positive person, my philosophy was that everyone faces challenges in life, and very often much worse than ours." Instead, the couple threw themselves into finding a new home - and had just moved in when Kate found out she was expecting. "When it happened naturally, I was stunned. It defied medical opinion and my wildest hopes," she said. Kate explained: "When the control line turned blue, I thought it was fate mocking me. But then the second line turned blue, too. I stared at it in disbelief. That was the start of this new life. I still carry the test around in my handbag with me."
