Robson Green's Weekend Escapes, 6.30 pm, BBC Two

Robson enjoying gentle outdoor pursuits in his beloved North-East with a few down-to-earth celebrity friends is the winter telly we didn’t know we needed. But, with a focus on mental well-being, some warm-hearted humour and stunning countryside, this show is a real tonic.

Tonight, the Grantchester star attempts paddleboarding on the Northumberland coast with his Newcastle United hero Les Ferdinand, while tomorrow, there’s an art lesson in Teesside with actor Mark Benton, and on Wednesday, a visit to Helmsley Walled Garden in North Yorkshire with England ace and Jungle Queen Jill Scott. Listen out for a Robson and Jill duet, too! Continues all week.

And history is about to repeat itself when the teenager unexpectedly turns up on his doorstep again, announcing that she’s following in her uncle’s footsteps by studying criminology in London.

Also in this week’s two-part investigation, the Lyell Centre team are called to attend the scene of a fatal train crash which looks as though it might not have happened by accident. Continues tomorrow.

SAS: Who Dares Wins, 9 pm, Channel 4

The military challenge show returns for an eighth series, and this time the new recruits must survive in the brutal conditions of Vietnam’s jungle. As 20 brave candidates try to complete the toughest phase of the SAS selection process, they are overseen by chief instructor Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham, show regulars Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox and Rudy Reyes, plus new member, Chris Oliver.

First up, they must tackle the ‘trainasium’, a terrifying walk across two parallel bars suspended 50ft above the ground. Then, it’s an abseil down a 215ft waterfall, not to mention the usual ‘beastings’ and interrogations. And that’s just the beginning!
