Weekend Escaper Warwick Davis: 'I imagine camping would be a problem for Stephen Merchant'

Warwick Davis, along with wife Sam and children Annabella and Harrison, prove themselves keen campers in ITV’s new holiday series Weekend Escapes with Warwick Davis (Friday).

Warwick, however, reckons his Life’s Too Short comedy cohorts, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, aren’t cut out for the great outdoors.

Taking time out of his busy UK theatre tour of See How They Run to talk to What’s on TV, Warwick joked:

“I haven’t been camping with Ricky and Stephen. I don’t know how they’d take to that sort of thing. You have to have a certain amount of patience and you haven’t got your home comforts. And I’ve a feeling Ricky likes his home comforts!

“I imagine camping would be a challenge for Stephen. He’d bang his head in a camper van and he’d have to go camping with a marquee!”

He reckons Karl Pilkington, who Warwick joined for the third series of Sky 1’s An Idiot Abroad, might fare better:

“I think Karl would like camping. He likes exploring England a lot more than he likes exploring other parts of the world!”
